8 January, 2009, Beijing- United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Director Mr. Subinay Nandy, accompanied by Programme Manager of the South-South Cooperation Team Mrs. Patricia Seghers, visited China-Africa Business Council’s (CABC) Secretariat. Mr. Nandy’s meeting with Deputy Secretarial General Ms. Zhang Li took stock of UNDP and CABC’s cooperation in the past 2009. In the later part of the meeting, Ms. Zhang Li presented CABC’s work plan for the coming 2010. Mr. Nandy gave his positive response to the plan as well as his valuable suggestions, such as holding China-Africa Investment Form, and expanding CABC’s network in Africa.

 

During the UNDP Administrator Miss Helen Clark’s meeting with Premier Wen Jiabao in Beijing last November, a new proposal was discussed for establishing a strategic partnership in which China and UNDP could work together to carry out trilateral development cooperation for the benefit of other countries, particularly in Africa. This time, Mr. Nandy and Miss Zhang Li focused on exploring possible mechanism for supporting and contributing to this strategic partnership construction and further promoting China-Africa economic cooperation in 2010 at the meantime.  

 

Another spotlight of the meeting was a discussion of possible plans for the Chief of Africa Bureau, UNDP, Beijing trip early this year and a series celebration for CABC’s 5^th anniversary of its establishment. 

 

Mr. Subinay Nandy and Ms. Zhang Li, on behalf of UNDP China and CABC Secretariat respectively, gave each other the warmest regards and best wishes for New Year at the end.
