China-Africa Business Council recently signed an agreement with the Shanghai United Assets and Equity Exchange (SUAEE) to join the new South-South Global Assets and Technology Exchange (SS-GATE) System created by the Special Unit for South-South Cooperation (SU/SSC) of the United Nations General Assembly. The SS-GATE shall provide a virtual and physical marketplace for asset, technology, and resource exchange, supported by advisory services, among developing countries. The goal of SS-GATE is to help accelerate economic development and poverty reduction at the global, regional, and national level. The Pilot stage of the project consists of three tracks:
?nbsp; Track I: Technology and Asset Exchange platform for exchanges of assets, equity, technology, and financial resources among Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries, including tools for project bidding, partner matching, financing options, and acquiring project development services
?nbsp; Track II: Infrastructure Projects Exchange platform offering public-private partnership and investment opportunities on small infrastructure projects in the South
?nbsp; Track III: Southern Development Stock Exchanges platform for contribution and partnership opportunities with a screened list of under-funded development projects.
The Track I pilot operation focuses on technology related to agro-industry and pharmaceuticals for SMEs in 16 countries. The Track I pilot operation will be executed by the China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchange (CICETE) and operated by Shanghai United Assets and Equity Exchange (SUAEE) in partnership with SS-GATE's collaborating networks: TECHNONET Asia, TECHNONET Africa, the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, and Industry (ICCI) and the China-Africa Business Council (CABC).
In the case of China, China-Africa Business Council (CABC) acts as both a collaborating Network and a "Participating Organizations?or PO. CABC shall serve as the contact for the Project Management Unit of SS-GATE on behalf of its members in China.
Some of the key responsibilities of CABC as a PO include promoting the use of SS-GATE System here in China including broadcasting the SS-GATE information, collecting and screening qualified project proposals according to set standards of SS GATE, identifying and screening potential Owner/Provider candidates to submit to the SS-GATE, assisting Owners in identifying/providing suitable consulting service providers, assisting Owners/Providers when needed to identify suitable legal and technical consulting and support services, providing training services to enhance the capacity of Owners to prepare suitable projects for listing with SS-GATE, introduce and facilitate access by Owners to financial institutions and work closely with local and foreign banks to support entrepreneurs to prepare suitable projects and follow up and monitor progress of on-going projects to provide case-studies for future operations
